Nature Chemical Biology Published the Research Discoveries by Professor Pei-Yuan Qian’s Research Team from the Hong Kong Branch: Unlock How Human Oral Microbial Small Molecule Promotes Dental Plaque Formation

On March 4, 2021, an inter-disciplinary research team led by Prof. Pei-Yuan Qian, Director of the Hong Kong Branch of the Southern Marine Science and Engineering Guangdong Laboratory (Guangzhou), in collaboration with Prof. Wen-Jun Zhang and Prof. Roya Maboudian from University of California at Berkeley, and Prof. Robert Burne from College of Dentistry, University of Florida, unraveled how a novel microbial small molecule released by human oral Streptococcus mutans clinical isolates promotes the development of dental caries. This is a research breakthrough by extending their research scope from the microbe-animal interactions mediated by biofilm-derived signal molecules to public health. The research findings were recently published in the prestigious scientific journal Nature Chemical Biology. Read more
