The International Webinar Series for Young Scholars:
“Cutting-edge Research on Marine Science and Engineering”

April to August 2024
Zoom Webinar

Text Area

The ocean covers over two-thirds of the earth and provides us with various resources and ecosystem services, functioning as a life support system for all life on earth. However, the ocean is still one of the least known areas of the planet. Therefore, understanding the ocean through scientific research is critical for us to protect the ocean, effectively manage the marine ecosystem as well as sustainably utilize marine resources.

Cultivation of the next generation of marine scientists and talents will boost our understanding of the ocean since they are the main driving force behind the progress in marine science and technology. Thus, providing an international platform for young scientists to exchange their scientific ideas and share their research discoveries is important. The Hong Kong Branch of the Southern Marine Science and Engineering Guangdong Laboratory (Guangzhou) (hereinafter refer to as HKB) is very passionate at young scholar nurturing and have successfully organized the 1st and 2nd International Symposium for Young Scientists and Postgraduates in 2021 and 2022, attracting more than 800 participants, with around 200 oral presentations.

The HKB now continues this effort in young talent cultivation through organizing the International Webinar Series for Young Scholars: “Cutting-edge Research on Marine Science and Engineering” through April to August 2024, focusing on three themes: 1) Marine Ecosystem Dynamics and Blue Carbon Economy; 2) Marine Biodiversity: Adaptation, Evolution and Conservation; and 3) Marine Resources and Technology: Innovation and Impact. We attempt to gather distinguished keynote speakers, young scientists and postgraduate students on these webinar series to discuss the recent advances in marine Science and technology, providing an interactive platform for young marine talents to showcase their new research ideas and discoveries.
