The Ocean covers more than 70% of the Earth’s surface and supports billions of livelihoods on earth. The United Nations today have designated the years 2021 to 2030 as the ‘Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development’ to boost research and scientific programmes for better management of ocean and coastal zone resources. A good understanding of the ocean is critical for us to carry out an effective management of the human activities that affect the marine environment and the existing biota. From a more fundamental perspective, the ocean is still one of the least known areas of the world. In China, for example, marine ecosystems and biological resources in the South China Sea and the Greater Bay Area have experienced various impacts from human activities and climate changes.

This international symposium to be held by The Hong Kong Branch of the Southern Marine Science and Engineering Guangdong Laboratory (Guangzhou) during 12 - 14 July 2021  will gather distinguished scientists, young scholars and research graduates to discuss the recent advances in Marine Science and Engineering.
